Welcome from the President

Cursive As the 2009 President of ArkAAA, I look forward to another year within the administrative law judiciary. Welcome to our website. As you take a “virtual” tour of our organization, upcoming conference information, and employment opportunities, do not overlook the conference photos from the most recent ArkAAA conference.

This year, ArkAAA will host the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary’s (NAALJ) 2009 Midyear Conference, here, in Little Rock from Sunday, May 17, 2009 through Tuesday, May 19, 2009. As the 2009 midyear conference chair, I am pleased to announce, on behalf of NAALJ, that the midyear conference fee includes a Riverboat Cruise and Dinner on the Arkansas River, aboard the Arkansas Queen, at the end of the first full day of the conference.

Over a year ago, ArkAAA discussed the feasibility of hosting the NAALJ midyear conference in the State of Arkansas and presented a proposal to NAALJ. We were delighted when NAALJ chose ArkAAA to host this event. ArkAAA members chose the Peabody Hotel as the conference site because of its location near downtown Little Rock in the heart of the Little Rock River Market District, just steps from the Arkansas River. In planning this year’s conference, ArkAAA members received support from both law schools within the State of Arkansas and the support of a diverse group of speakers, including law professors, administrative law judges, hearing officers, and attorneys from Arkansas, California, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, and West Virginia. ArkAAA is happy to announce that, for the first time, our conference includes speakers and experts in the field of Special Education. The conference will open with a dynamic presentation on “Cultural Competence and Adjudication” and will conclude each day with a report on a model code which affects the administrative law judiciary.

If you are an administrative law judge, hearing officer, or commissioner responsible for administrative hearings for an agency, board, or commission, I encourage you to join our organization and experience our conferences. Both ArkAAA and NAALJ provide exceptional opportunities for professional development. As the midyear conference theme indicates, both organizations work toward ensuring justice and professionalism within the administrative law judiciary by providing training and development. ArkAAA and NAALJ appreciate the involvement of all those who share a common interest in the administrative law judiciary. Membership information and forms are available on this website.

After viewing information on the agenda, speakers, hotel, and registration, I hope to see you at our next conference.

Cordially,
